He could become a high end RFA after this season but I think its more likely he gets marginally better, which IMO is totally fine because I really liked his play last year.

So if he stays around the same in production and what not, what does he get on a longer deal after this year?

I think what happened here was GMJR thought he could unload someone and ended up not being able to.

This is why I don’t believe a god damn thing from Rossi. The dude made up the part about Geno wanting a trade. He’s a (frank)ing clown.

Just to make one hockey statement today for the hell of it - Jared McCann isn't good enough to force Jake to the off-wing, we have plenty of people who can play that side, put McCann elsewhere.
- burgh4life87

I lean agree though I think there's 20-25 goal upside with McCann. I like him, but hard guy to figure out where to play. I'm leaning 3rd line with Bjugstad and Hornqvist to add some speed and scoring.

The guy is a moron. Not a good look for the man that is supposed to be writing the much anticipated (for many years) biography of Malkin, haha.

I'm also leaning towards him in this role. I like the idea of having Rust and Kahun/Simon in the top 6 RW roles, rotating in with 4th line as well.

It was such a good article, with like two suspicious paragraphs, and one turns out to be completely fabricated? He has zero credibility. I can't believe I gave him the benefit of the doubt on this.

to be fair, he never claimed that it came from geno.

"multiple team sources say malkin requested a trade if kessel was to return"

And it clearly didn't bother malkin enough to ask him not to write about it

When have the Penguins not used tweeners to fill out their top 6? They've rarely had even 3 top 6 wings

I think it's the right move because the window is closing and it's hard to see the team having a better roster next year with all the players due raises and most of the better prospects about 2 years out. But if Pettersson establishes himself as a top 4 defenseman, it will cost 4M, not 3M on his next deal.

Kingerski thinks there's still going to be a trade before it's official for what it's worth.

We already know what Rust can and can't do on the top line, so I'd like to see someone else get that chance. Kahun is my pick unless he plays on the 2nd line.

That is not the part in question. The passage in question is when Rossi writes that Malkin did not want to play another game or season on a line with Phil.

"Malkin denies that, but it doesn’t mean he wanted to play another game, let alone another season, with Kessel as his linemate.

He did not."

This comment was never made. Rossi claims that it was through team sources and Malkin's body language that he determined it was Malkin's preference he didn't want to play with Phil. That's bad reporting.

I tend to agree, I'd like to see Kahun and Simon in those spots. Rust ended the season very poorly though and I think coach wants to give him a shot back in the top 6 to redeem himself.

What's Pettersson's salary going to be? $1.8M?

Robb Rossi is a f'n idiot. Always has been, always will be. When I really caught whiff of him being a major tool was when Sportsnet's Hockey Central up here in Canada had him interviewed on the air as a Pens insider and he was talking about Sid and Malkin wanting out of Pittsburgh soon because he could never see them returning to hoisting the cup in Pitts and all sorts of other bullsh!t...this was like 7 or 8 years ago.

22 man roster likely.

Send down Trotman and one of Rudwehdl/Riiki

Edit: they can be 10% over the cap until the season starts.

This along the lines of what I suggested and a certain novelist on here ripped into me for those numbers.

He reported that Malkin denied the trade, which was made obvious by the quotation. then he speculated that he didn't want to play with him ever again, which was made obvious by the lack of quotes. What is so confusing about that. It was creatively written, but not incorrectly.

Sullivan has never said that he doesn't like Kessel, but you don't need a quote to know that he does.

deceptive as it may be, id rather read that, than some other dippoop telling me that Derrick Poulliot came to camp in the best shape of his life and looking hungrier to play than ever, for 4 straight years.

A bit off topic, but anytime I hear a player is showing up in the best shape of his life or career I already know they’re going to have a bad season.
